Dear Friends, Parents, Student, and Well Wishers
Welcome to Holborn Academy and to our website. I hope that the website will give you an insight into our innovative and exciting school environment that we have established in Abuja.
Since the establishment and commencement of Holborn Academy on September 26th 2016, the school has made continuous efforts to realize its vision and mission of ‘’preparing each child for greatness’’ by nurturing lively, inquiring, discerning and creative pupils, with appropriate measures in place to develop an innovative, balanced curriculum, and a professional learning community among teachers.
As a school, we rightly attach importance to the pursuit of personal growth, aesthetic appreciation, a positive outlook and appreciation for others as the priority.
According to M. Dowling: ‘’One of the most important gifts we can offer young children is a positive view of themselves. Without this gift they will flounder throughout life and be constantly seeking re-assurance from others, as they cannot see it from within’’.
Holborn Academy strongly supports this saying, because the world around our children is changing more rapidly than it ever has before. Our children are competent with equipment and technology that did not exist some years back but conceived and developed almost alongside the children themselves.
By the time these little one will graduate through secondary school in just few years’ time, the cycle of change would have gained further momentum and who knows what experiences the world will be offering.
Good or bad our children need to be equipped for these experiences and having a positive view of themselves will be paramount to them succeeding in this rapidly changing world.
With this challenging thought in mind, we (Holborn Academy) have developed a school ethos and curriculum which takes the best of new innovations to enrich each child’s learning journey, adding layers to the traditions and skills that lead to excellent teaching. We are doing our very best to ensure that all of our children hold a positive view of themselves and are ready to approach the future with self-confidence.
Using individualised learning across the school has ensured that all of our children expect to succeed. Rewards abound for every child who finds success; we do not expect failure but acknowledge challenges and work together to overcome them, so that each child develops skills of perseverance and tenacity. However our world develops, these are skills which will remain essential for life.
Indeed, primary education are the foundation years during which pupils/students should develop good study habits, moral values, reflective ability, self-discipline, and the basic learning skills. It is a period they should learn to respect others, and take responsibility for their own learning. These attributes are far more important than scoring a few more points in school examinations.
I am glad to see the vision of the education reform desired in our dear country Nigeria being realized in Holborn Academy, where students are nurtured to be self-directed learners who enjoy learning, where students have the space with technology and freedom to develop their individual interests and potentials, where teachers take pride in and derive satisfaction from teaching, and where parents are supportive of the school and respectful to teachers.
Thank you for taking out time to go through this, I look forward to welcoming you and your little ones to the Holborn family.
